Product Description
Common use
Tegopen is an antibacterial medication from the group of semi-synthetic penicillins. It kills bacteria by blocking bacterial synthesis of cell wall and hereby prevents propagation of the microorganisms. It is active against gram-positive and gram-positive cocci: Neisseria meningitidis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Corynebacterium diphtheriae, Haemophilus influenzae, Bacillus anthracis. Tegopen is stable in acidic media and to the action of penicillinase. Cloxacillin is used to treat infectious and inflammatory diseases caused by the susceptible organisms such as abscesses, carbuncles, furunculosis, sinusitis, otitis media, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, paratonsillar abscess, pneumonia, pleural empyema, meningitis, endocarditis, sepsis, osteomyelitis, urinary tract diseases, prevention of complications on transplantation of skin graft.

Dosage and direction
Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Recommended dose for adults is 500 mg four times a day, one for 2-10 y.o. Kids is 250 mg four times a day, children younger than 2 y.o. should take 125 mg of Tegopen four times a day. Drink a full glass of water after you took each dose on an empty stomach at least one hour before or two hours after a meal. Do not drink soda or other carbonated beverages as they are able to decrease effectiveness of the treatment. Take this medication regularly at evenly spaced intervals to get the best results. Do not crush, chew, or open the capsules, just swallow them whole. If it is the suspension liquid of Tegopen shake it before usage and measure with a special spoon. Do not stop taking this medication without recommendation of your doctor even if your symptoms improved as your infection may not be completely treated.

Precautions
Inform your doctor if you have such conditions as kidney disease, stomach or intestinal illnesses, infectious mononucleosis, diabetes, or allergic to any penicillines. Avoid taking alcohol if you are treated with Tegopen as it is able to worsen its side effects.

Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the components of Tegopen.

Possible side effect
If during treatment with Tegopen you experience hives, itching, nausea, heartburn, diarrhea, anaphylactic shock, seizures, severe watery diarrhea and abdominal cramps, unusual bleeding or bruising just stop taking it and notify your doctor about your symptoms as you may need immediate medical help.
Drug interaction
Antacids, glucosamine, laxatives, food, aminoglycosides slow down and reduce absorption of Tegopen while ascorbic acid increases it. Co-administration of bactericidal antibiotics (including cephalosporin, cycloserine, vancomycin, rifampin), aminoglycosides co-administered with Tegopen has a combined effect, which exceeds the action of each separate component. Tegopen is an antagonist toward bacteriostatic antibiotics (including macrolides, chloramphenicol, linkosamidy, tetracyclines). Tegopen increases effectiveness of anticoagulants by suppressing the intestinal microflora, reducing prothrombin index. It reduces effectiveness of oral contraceptives. Diuretics, allopurinol, blockers of tubular secretion, phenylbutazone, NSAIDs which decrease the tubular secretion, increase blood levels of Tegopen. Concomitant use with allopurinol increases risk of allergic reactions (rash).

Missed dose
If you forgot to take this medication take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time of your next dose just skip the missed dose and return to your regular schedule.

Overdose
In case you experience muscle spasms or weakness, pain or twitching, ache in the fingers or toes, numbness in the fingers or toes, seizures, confusion, coma, or agitation during treatment with Tegopen, seek for immediate medical help.
